National Clinic Requirements for Youth Soccer Coaches

A medical assistant at Mercy San Juan Hospital, Jammi Komac also coaches soccer with the Roseville Youth Soccer Club. As a coach, Jammi Komac is required to participate in a national clinic organized by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).

All coaches, whether recreational or competitive, are required to participate in the corresponding clinic. Recreational coaches, for example, must complete the F National Clinic and its field component.

The USSF F National Clinic is designed for all parents and coaches of recreational youth soccer and consists of a two-hour online course and a five-and-a-half-hour field session. The clinic aims to educate participants on U.S. soccer’s best practices for creating an appropriate environment for players who are 5 to 8 years old.

The field component encourages player development through creativity and demonstration. It teaches coaches to avoid play-by-play coaching and focus instead on letting players learn and grow. Coaches are encouraged to demonstrate skills rather than using verbal explanations.
